Health insurance keeping employees in fear of losing their jobs

Tuesday September 9, 2008By anonymous

I have lived in Wisconsin since 1994. I have never been able to find permanent quality work, even though I am educated and skilled. My spouse was forced to retire two years ago after knee surgery. We were thrown into a SS income. I have worked very sparse temp jobs. The most recent with two major health insurance companies. I cannot afford insurance on our income. We are trying to keep the house. At 58 no one wants to hire me permanently and I am not sure I could afford the employee insurance after reading what I have read. It is very scary and I don’t think I am going to make it to 65 at this rate. The thought of losing everything if a major illness or any hospitilization happens is ulcer producing. Yet, our taxes are there to be paid promptly every year. The background checks and drugs screens are expected to be paid by the temp employee now! I don’t take drugs and I know it but it’s a 75 dollar hit to my paycheck that I feel the employer should bear. If we complain, we lose the temp job. We need a universal health plan that takes health insurance out of the corporate arena where they use it to find out all kinds of what used to be private information about people and use health insurance to keep employees in fear of losing their jobs.
