Five dollars a day

Thursday October 18, 2007By Anonymous

My real problem is the lack of housing. This may be my 6th year consecutively without substansial housing, have lived in the elements continuously for most of this time. I’ve taken medication for type 2 diabeties for 4yrs, have asthma, bronchitis, have smoked for 34yrs, and also take INH for exposure to T.B. I can’t go to a shelter due to the risk of re-infection of lungs. Cold damp weather really aggravates my lung condition. I’ve been told to leave Madison because they don’t want me around anymore. I’ve been harrased by a Madison cop and have extreme dificulty finding substantial employment. I am a veteran of the cold war era, 1981-1982 (1yr, 11mths, 26 days total). I have no benefits except for my monthly SSDI payments. SO LIFE GOES ON. I have about $4.oo — $5.oo per day to live on, and I can really make the change spread thin when I have to.
